Differentiation

Make the activity more kinaesthetic by recreating the sorting network on the floor of the classroom or outdoors, then assign each step to different learners and have them move through the sorting network.

Extension

Guide learners to deepen their awareness of health and safety by using digital resources to explore other important first aid processes and present their findings.

Challenge learners to consider how we can adjust the sorting network to accommodate data sets of more or less than six items. How would this change things?

About Activity

This extension theme pairs with the Using a Sorting Network template activity to focus on steps of primary survey first aid assistance.

Follow the template activity guide along with the content focus of the Emergency Aid extension guide to consider six critical steps in stabilising an injured person, then use a simple sorting algorithm to think like a computer to organise the steps into order.

Use the extension guide together with the Using a Sorting Network template activity guide and sorting network diagram, and make the activity more hands-on with the kinaesthetic resources.

Activity Guide

Sorting the Primary Survey, Kinaesthetic Resources

The DR.ABC+T Cards below can be used to help recreate this activity with movement, where the sorting network is mapped onto the floor of a room or outdoor area and learners represent the steps of the Primary Survey to physically move through the network while sorting the steps into sequential order.
